How to get a Death Certificate
If the person died at home, contact their GP or call 111.
If in a hospital, the staff will issue this.
You need this certificate to register the death.
How to register a death
Register with the local Register Office where the person died.
You’ll need:
Medical certificate
Deceased’s details (full name, date/place of birth, last address, occupation, etc.)
You’ll receive:
Death certificate (get several copies)
Certificate for Burial or Cremation (the “green form”)
How to arrange a funeral
Check if the deceased had a funeral plan or wishes in their will.
You can use a funeral director or arrange it yourself.
You cannot proceed with burial or cremation until the death is registered.

Notify most government departments in one go, including:
HMRC
DWP (pensions and benefits)
DVLA (driving licence)
